Truck brand gives career guidance to Kibler Park youth for Mandela Day

The Scania representatives outlined career choices for the youth in Ward 125.

A Career Awareness Day for Kibler Park Secondary School was truck brand Scania’s community contribution for Mandela Day and a Ward 125 school event.

It took place on July 18 at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre and aimed to showcase opportunities for learners in the automotive and truck industry through Scania.

Thebogo Mankga, Scania’s communications manager, gave her take on the importance of career awareness.

“This will empower the kids and expose them to different career choices, especially in the trucking industry. We are looking for more technicians to build trucks or be part of other aspects of a business that is in their community,” Mankga said.

Nelisiwe Nkosi, the marketing manager of Scania Southern Africa, stressed d the importance of making learners aware of the opportunities around them.

“We hold these events to create exposure regarding opportunities at Scania so community learners can pursue meaningful and successful careers through Scania,” Nkosi said.

Faith Mokwoena, an English teacher at Kibler Park Secondary, sees the benefit in learners having many career choices.

The speakers engage the learners with career information.

“I think it’s essential for kids to have choices when it comes to careers and especially to be successful in their community,” Mokwoena said.

Councillor Matsobane Sekhu of Ward 125 echoed the sentiments of Scania’s representatives while not forgetting the significance of Mandela Day.

“Nelson Mandela believed in education as a tool to better change the world. I think it’s significant that on this day, we continue to educate our youth in aspects of a career after school,” the councillor said.
