Eden Park teens prepare for pool competition in Europe

Badenhorst and Cook hope to represent SA at a pool table competition in England.

Eden Park teenagers Lewante Badenhorst (17) and Lemark Cook (14) are doing wonders in the sport of pool.

They started playing in the garage at Robert Miles’ house, the neighbourhood uncle.

The duo plays for the Eden Palm Blackball Pool League, a member of Blackball South Africa (BSA). Badenhorst and Cook started playing five years ago, and this year clinched an opportunity to represent SA at the 2024 Hawley Cup in Bridlington, England, scheduled for October 11 to 20. Their trip is an opportunity of a lifetime.

Cook played for the U15s, ending sixth in the SA pool competition and earned himself SA colours. Badenhorst played for the U18s, also earning SA colours, and both received invitations to compete in the competition in England.

However, the Edenpark Senior Secondary learners each need R40 000 to travel to the October competition and for accommodation and meals.

With the help of the Eden Palm Blackball Pool League, they have only raised about R5 000.

This is a call for help for donors and helping hands willing to pledge any amount of money to help Badenhorst and Cook travel to England to display their talent on the world stage.

To donate, call Robert Miles on 072 531 6918 or Anthony Diamond on 062 483 5927.
