Motorsport enthusiasts ready to hit the track
Alberton motorsport enthusiasts are gearing up for heart-pounding racing.
Race day at Red Star Raceway on June 15 is fast approaching.
Rob van Aarle and Bruce van Niekerk are working behind the scenes to get their cars ready for the event.
Due to prior commitments, local motorsport enthusiast Blane de Meillon will not be competing.
Meyersdal’s Van Aarle will be competing in the Historic Fine Cars category of the Evapco Historic Pursuit series in his Ace Auto Salvage 1969 Ford Escort.
“Rob has overcome the reliability issues that he had in previous rounds with his Escort, thanks to a lot of hard work from Rob, Belinda and the team as well as support from TWT Newmarket and Coastal Tool Hire Westrand,” Brackenhurst’s Van Niekerk said.
Van Niekerk will be competing in the Formula Libre category for open-wheeled, single-seater cars in his 1991 Omega.
After strong results in the first two rounds of the championship which saw him win all four races in Class D, he is looking forward to the next race.
“I’m aiming for a good result and to extend my lead in the Formula Index of Performance as well as the Formula Monoposto Index of Performance championships. Goldwagen has come on board with trade support for the Formula Monoposto Series, which includes Formula Libre and Formula M cars,” he said.
Red Star Raceway opens its gates for spectators at 07:30 on June 15. The facility has excellent spectator facilities.
Motorsport fanatics are reminded to bring their winter woolies and are welcome to bring their cooler box. There are also braai facilities available.
