Johannesburg City Marathon invites community to its Inaugural City Marathon

Be part of history as Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club invites the community to join in the festivities of the inaugural Johannesburg City Marathon.

Johannesburg Harriers Athletics Club (JHAC) is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural Johannesburg City Marathon, scheduled for March 24.

The Johannesburg City Marathon will kick off at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park, offering a novel and invigorating route for runners. This new course promises a unique blend of urban and natural landscapes, providing a fresh perspective for both seasoned and amateur athletes.

JHAC chairperson, Mkateko Mboweni-de Klerk, said the event marks a significant milestone in the club’s history, as it transforms the renowned Jackie Gibson Marathon into a new, enhanced experience for participants and spectators.

“The event aims to join the ranks of globally recognised marathons, such as the Cape Town Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Berlin Marathon, London Marathon, and Boston Marathon.

“The aspiration is to create a lasting impact and become a beacon of athletic excellence on the international stage,” said Mkateko.

Having celebrated its 120th anniversary in January 2024, JHAC invites the community to be part of this historic occasion. Drawing inspiration from recent national achievements, Mkateko calls on the community to celebrate the city’s talent on March 24.

“Be part of history and come run, walk, or crawl our 42km, 21km, or 10km race with us,” said Mkateko.

For those eager to participate, registration is now open. Entries can be secured online at PeakTiming.com or through manual entries at Sportsmans Warehouse at The Glen or SweatShop at Dunkeld West Centre.

Seize the opportunity to be part of this monumental event and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Johannesburg’s athletic legacy.
