Teamwork sees car thief nabbed

Swift action by community and security teams lead to arrest.

Because of quick response by CPS Security, a car thief was apprehended on Voortrekker Road in New Redruth on January 6.

The incident unfolded when CPS Security’s control room received a call from a client reporting a stolen vehicle on Penzance Street.

The stolen vehicle was last seen heading towards Swartkoppies Road.

“Our reaction units swiftly moved to the last known location and were guided by taxi drivers at a local rank, who pointed out the suspects entering the taxi area,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, the sales director at CPS Security.

“With community support and Fox Security, our members entered the taxi rank and apprehended one suspect. Unfortunately, a second suspect fled on foot.”

Upon inspection, they found car-breaking tools in the apprehended suspect’s possession. Furthermore, the stolen vehicle was found two streets away from the taxi rank.

“A commendable job by all involved. The collaboration between the community, security teams, and our swift responders led to the arrest of the car thief,” said Van der Merwe.
