South Crest residents doing all they can to protect Zeeman Pump Station

The collective effort of caring residents restores a pump station to mint-condition.

Due to continuous theft taking place at the Zeeman Pump Station in South Crest, which often left residents of South Crest and Alberton North without water, the South Crest Residents Association (SCRA) prioritised the protection and security of the pump station.

The SCRA embarked on a project to repair the pump station. On December 22, Johan Ehrke and SCRA repaired the roof, replaced the tiles and installed clear-view fencing in the roof to prevent any unlawful entry.

SCRA liaison officer Deidre de Carvalho said, “The pump station was initially beyond repair as a tree fell on it. Continuous theft occurred, which left many residents without water due to burst water pipes.

“The residents have worked together to ensure the necessary repairs take place. Their collective efforts have resulted in the pump station and the property restored and secured to avoid further theft.”

In addition to the repairs, SCRA has signed a contract with the Special Operations Group (SOG), which is installing an alarm system to alert the relative people of unlawful entry on the property of the pump station.

A spotlight has also been installed by neighbours for further security and visibility.

Project Improvement Clean-up Alberton (PICUP) Alberton which engages in clean-ups in Alberton, have further collaborated with SCRA to clean up the property where the pump station is located, guaranteeing the property is secured and clean.

The final repairs and clean-up of the pump station were completed on December 28.

SCRA has been in existence for about one year and has collaborated with many associations and residents to secure and repair the pump station and create a safer and cleaner community they can call home.
