415 nabbed for various crimes in Ekurhuleni

At least 415 law offenders were arrested in the City of Ekurhuleni during the Operation Shanela that was conducted over the weekend.

A joint high-density Operation Shanela in Ekurhuleni policing precincts led to the removal of over 400 offenders from December 8 to 10.

A total of 415 suspects were nabbed for committing various offences while three unlicensed firearms were removed from the streets and three illegal liquor outlets were shut down.

A team of law enforcement authorities, including Home Affairs, EMPD, CPF, Gauteng Traffic and Ekurhuleni SAPS, carried out the operation.

On the second day of the operation, while conducting their routine patrol in Edenpark, members of Crime Prevention came across a woman who informed them that she was at the police station to file a report of an alleged rape and that she knew the culprit.

The police went to the location of the suspect. After the suspect was located, a search of him revealed that he had an unregistered firearm and 11 live rounds of ammunition.

The other two firearms were seized in Ivory Park and Katlehong.

Major General Anna Sithole, the SAPS Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, praised the teams’ efforts to lessen crime and make sure that offenders are held accountable.
