For those who wish to enjoy a quiet meal, there’s the fine dining side of the restaurant, where you’ll be able to appreciate the wonderful ambience.

BRACKENHURST – No, you’re not in Portugal, but at the new premises of long-standing restaurant, A Churrasqueira, which has recently moved from its old premises in Main Street, Rosettenville.

Meeting the owners, Victor and Jackie da Silva, was a breath of fresh air. They are young, ambitious, passionate about their business, hands-on and have a definite love for people.

Victor and Jackie met when Victor opened A Churrasqueira in Main Street, and Jackie at only 17 became a part-time waitress at the 10-table restaurant. They have grown together, and proof of that is the way their business has grown into one of the most popular restaurants in the South of Joburg.

The family-run restaurant is very family orientated, and one of the reasons for the move is they are able to have a much larger outside, safe play area for youngsters. “Being parents of young children ourselves we value the importance of catering for everyone,” said Victor and Jackie.

The restaurant really does cater for everyone and is divided into three sections, still under the same roof.

For those who wish to enjoy a quiet meal, there’s the fine dining side of the restaurant, where you’ll be able to appreciate the wonderful ambience. Families with younger children will be thrilled to see one side of the restaurant is close to the playing area, perfect for entertaining your child, while you can enjoy your meal and still keep a watchful eye on them.

A Churrasqueira, translated, is a variety of food on the grill, and that’s exactly what the restaurant offers, plus other delectable dishes. They offer typical Portuguese and authentic food, most popular being chicken, house rump steak, tripe, as well as prawns. Favourite desserts include lemon meringue pie, Portuguese Molotov, crème caramel and cheese cake.

The children’s menu is really cool, and other meals children can choose from include Taz trinchado, Nelly nuggets, Penelope prawns and Vicky Vienna.

A Churrasqueira caters for all parties, including 21sts, engagements, bachelors, hen parties and baby showers.

The service is fantastic and the staff very eager to please. “Our regular customers are enjoying the new look restaurant, and we welcome all new customers to come and enjoy a fine dining experience with us,” Jackie and Victor said.
