Honesty wins the day

I had an encounter with EMPD officers from the Alberton precinct last Wednesday as I was travelling between General Alberts and Jochem van Bruggen streets in Alberton.

I was stopped by an officer, Constable N Makumane, recently deployed to the Alberton precinct.

What a friendly and respectful officer he is. I was about to be charged with failing to stop at the stop sign, and my husband offered him R200, but he refused to take it.

Instead, he educated my husband, and I quote his words: “The very same public which offers us bribes is the very same public which will say officers are corrupt, so please refrain from offering us bribes because the municipality pays us well for us not to take a bribe and we took an oath to protect the dignity of our badge.”

I have not come across such an officer in a long time. We need more officers like him in Alberton.
After our conversation, I realised this person looked familiar because I normally see them controlling traffic at the R59 when there is load-shedding.

He serves his community well and with pride and dignity because our lives are much easier, and we are protected knowing we have such officers on our streets.

I beg you to assist me in letting this gentleman know that his work is recognised and appreciated, and he should keep fighting the good battle.

Impressed
