Brackendowns SAPS notes an alarming increase in fraud scams

Brackendowns SAPS cautions the community amid an alarming increase in fraud scams.

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to scam people of their hard-earned money.

Brackendowns SAPS cautions locals not to fall victim to scams this festive season.

Sergeant Lindile Moloi, social crime coordinator at Brackendowns SAPS, said they noted an increase in fraud scams, especially on online purchases.

She advised the public to be vigilant when answering phone calls from people claiming to be employees of banking institutions.

“They will be asked to provide sensitive information. Instead of falling for that trap, locals should visit their banks to confirm if they need any information. They should also refrain from online purchases such as Facebook market,” Moloi said.

With the festive season at our doorsteps, gamblers can easily fall victim to online gambling platforms.

Moloi reiterated, “Those purchasing items through these platforms should be cautious. These scammers will make people pay for a product twice and tell them to pay for their storage. The public should also refrain from doing online investments.”
