Alberton High remarkable animal essentials donation drive makes pawsitive impact

Learners and staff at Alberton High School rally together for a successful donation drive, providing essential supplies to their local animal shelter on September 8.

Alberton High School achieved a remarkable feat by organising an immensely successful donation drive for essential supplies to support their local animal shelter on September 8.

The learners and staff came together with an incredible display of compassion and dedication. The initiative was spearheaded by the school’s welfare executives, who have been working diligently to instil a spirit of empathy and goodwill among the student body.

According to executives, Jordan Do O Faustino and Gemma Ciorovich, the goal was not just to collect supplies but also to cultivate an ethos of caring and providing for those in need, particularly the voiceless and vulnerable animals in their community.

“The donation drive itself was a resounding success. We rallied together, collecting an impressive array of items that would prove invaluable to a local animal shelter, the Alberton SPCA.

“The contributions included an abundance of canned animal food, bags of pellets, and a generous stack of newspapers, all of which would greatly assist in the daily operations and care of the animals.

“In addition to the donation drive, we volunteered our time at the Alberton SPCA. Our efforts went beyond just providing supplies; we rolled up our sleeves and got to work cleaning and organising. Two storage rooms were the focus of their attention.

“The girls took on the task of cleaning out the blanket storage room, which proved to be an adventure in itself. Alongside the blankets and towels, we encountered our fair share of creepy crawlies.

“Undeterred, we persevered, sorting and categorising the linens, and discarding any that were in poor condition, ensuring that the animals would have clean and comfortable bedding.

“Meanwhile, the boys took charge of the food storage room, demonstrating their dedication to making a difference. We meticulously cleaned the storage space, checked the expiration dates on all the food items, and organised them by expiry date. This not only ensured that the shelter had a well-organized food supply but also helped prevent any waste by using items that were nearing expiration first, ” said the school’s executives.

The school’s executives said after completing their tasks, they didn’t miss the opportunity to spend quality time with the furry residents of the SPCA.
