The NSPCA in Alberton wins big prizes from SPAR Group’s 60th birthday

The SPAR Group’s celebration of their 60th birthday saw the Alberton's NSPCA showered with blessings. The NSPCA also received a R10 000 cheque from SPAR.

The NSPCA in Alberton recently won new wheels that will significantly enhance the services offered to the public in fighting cruelty to animals.

This win resulted from the SPAR diamond jubilee celebration that challenged South Africans to vote for a charity of their choice to win a special edition Hyundai i20.

This programme, called Good Mileage, was unveiled as a component of SPAR’s Win-A-Car competition and was developed to make a difference while honouring SPAR’s 60 years of business in the nation.

The national advertising and promotions manager for the SPAR Group, Helen Barrett, said that to thank their customers, they offered a chance for shoppers in the nation to win a car annually.

Thus far, they have given away more than 1 145 vehicles. In honour of their 60th birthday, they gave away 60 vehicles and donated an additional car to a cause dear to their hearts.

“Charities aligned with the SPAR brand play a vital role in creating positive change in their local communities. We wanted to stay true to our culture of caring by collaborating with charities we already support through other SPAR initiatives and provide them with a platform for greater awareness,” said Barrett.

With 20 years under its belt, the SPAR Win-A-Car competition has made a difference in many people’s lives. The impact on the communities where SPAR outlets operate was increased this year with the addition of a car for charity.

Thank you for your votes

During a one-month voting period, the public cast over a million votes for their preferred charity, and the NSPCA was one of four organisations chosen as prospective recipients of the Hyundai i20.

Marketing and fundraising officer of the NSPCA, Brenda Santon, said they were fortunate to be one of the four competing charities in the competition.

“The NSPCA extends its gratitude to SPAR for this great initiative in giving back to the community. The vehicle will help the NSPCA extend its reach to more animals needing help across SA. Good mileage for a good purpose and a huge shout out to our supporters, who care about animals, for making this win possible,” Barrett said.

The car has advanced safety features, including a Matrix vehicle tracking device, two wireless Beame recovery devices, and a MiX Vision dashcam.

Furthermore, the number of votes cast for each charity was proof of their dedication to what they did. SPAR was thrilled to present each of the four organisations with a cheque for R10 000 and SPAR items crucial to their causes.
