WATCH: Winter wonderland as snow hits Alberton and Joburg south

The snow comes with very cold conditions expected to last until the end of the week.

As temperatures hit below zero over Sunday night, residents in Alberton and Joburg South have woken up to a snowy Monday.

Gauteng Weather reported that Sunday was the coldest night of the year so far.

The South African Weather Service says freezing temperatures are expected to persist across parts of the country.

Residents are advised to wrap up warmly and to bring pets indoors, especially overnight when temperatures are expected to plummet.

Motorists will, therefore, need to adapt their driving to suit these different conditions.

Keep a longer following distance from the car ahead of you. Brake earlier, enter corners at slower speeds, have a firm grip on the steering wheel, switch on the headlights in poor visibility and always focus on the road ahead.

Residents across South Africa took to social media to share images and videos of snowfall or flakes making landfall in their communities.
