Frances Vorwerg School showered with donations

Staff at the school, which caters for learners who have cerebral palsy and specific learning challenges, reflected it was a special day because their prayers had been answered as they needed donations.

Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High and Ward 23 interparty committee members donated food and winter essentials to Frances Vorwerg School on June 22.

Staff at the school, which caters for learners who have cerebral palsy and specific learning challenges, reflected it was a special day because their prayers had been answered as they needed donations.

According to Isabella Mostert, one of the school’s heads of department, they were in desperate need of donations, and the two donors came through for them.

“We have learners who come from disadvantaged homes and rely on the food provided at school. We rely solely on sponsorships and donations to run the feeding scheme projects. It is difficult for them to concentrate at school on an empty stomach.

“This month was one of those months when we were desperate for donations,” said Mostert.

Shané Wiese, a social worker from Marais Viljoen, said they chose the school because it is close to their head girl’s heart since a family member attends the school.

“We contacted the school to see if there was anything we as a school could do to help, and they expressed a desire for food parcels for the children in need. We believe we succeeded as we donated about 38 food parcels, and we hope those children have a wonderful holiday.

“We would like to thank our Grade 11 and 12 learners for making contributions.”

Marilyn Swan, a Ward 23 interparty committee member, said they have been soliciting donations from the Glenvista community to donate to the school.

“We have a box at a flower shop in Glenvista Shopping Centre where people donate food, clothing, or hand-knitted blankets. We hope the children have a happy holiday season thanks to the donation we brought them,” said Swan.
