The Alberton Rugby Club will host the Mastercard Golden Lions Women’s team.

The Alberton Rugby Club will make history when it hosts the prestigious Mastercard Golden Lions Women’s team for a thrilling Women’s Premier Division fixture.

The club’s relentless efforts to improve its facilities and enhance the rugby experience caught the attention of the Gauteng Lions Rugby Union (GLRU), which entrusted them with this exciting opportunity.

On July 1, the Mastercard Golden Lions Women will take to the field as the home team, facing off against the formidable Sharks Women from KwaZulu-Natal.

The match will kick off at 13:00 on the A field, known as the Lood Kleynhans field after its dedication on June 24.

This event is a milestone in the growth of women’s rugby in Alberton, with the recently established Fidelity ADT Elande women’s team looking to make their mark on the sport.

The fixture promises to showcase the talent and skill of these dedicated athletes and will undoubtedly captivate the rugby community.

But before the rugby action begins, the Alberton Rugby Club has a special treat for the fans. At 11:00, the Alberton Mongrels will face the Western Bears in a thrilling match. The Mongrels are part of the Golden Oldies rugby tradition, where seasoned players come together to relive the glory days while emphasising the social aspects of the game.

These matches never fail to impress, with glimpses of the heroes of yesteryear showcasing their enduring talent.
After the women’s rugby encounter, the Fidelity ADT Elande will take on the Roodepoort team. The first team match will kick off at 16:00, also on the Lood Kleynhans field.

As is customary at the Alberton Rugby Club, there will be plenty of entertainment for everyone in attendance. Spectators can look forward to a fantastic lineup of musicians, including Tjoppie and the crowd favourite, Rayne, and his dancers, who will start the festivities at 17:45 and 18:30, respectively.

The main attractions will be Amore Vittone, scheduled to perform at 19:15, and Bok Van Blerk, taking the stage at 20:00.

The Alberton community is invited to come and enjoy this action-packed day at the club. It’s an opportunity to support the province, the club, and some favourite musicians.

Pre-book your tickets on Ticketpro or buy them at the gate. Don’t miss out on this event that celebrates rugby, camaraderie, and the vibrant spirit of our community.
