Germiston Flying Squad nab two suspects for different crimes on N3

A hijacked truck was recovered in Alberton North by the Germiston Unit members .

Members of Germiston Flying Squad arrested two suspects on Wednesday, June 7 in different incidents for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and a hijacked truck.

According to Constable Ntombikayise Ngcobo, the communication officer of the flying squad, the one arrest followed after Sergeant officers Johhny Moloto and Willy Lebina spotted a grey Toyota Etios which had three occupants inside during crime prevention duties along N3 freeway direction Durban at around 09:45.

“The motor vehicle was travelling along N3 Freeway from Alberton direction towards Vosloorus direction where immediately after passing Grey Avenue police signalled the driver to stop,” she said.

Ngcobo said the driver stopped the motor vehicle on the Heidelberg off-ramp, and police requested to search the motor vehicle and the three occupants.

“Whilst conducting a search, police found one 9mm pistol firearm and 16x life ammunition inside one occupant’s side small bag which was hooked around his shoulder and he was sitting on the front passenger seat,” said Ngcobo.

The 29-year-old male was then arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and live ammunition.

It is alleged that the grey Etios is used as an Uber taxi and the suspect who was found with a firearm hired the Uber to Thokoza.

“The suspect was then arrested and on further investigation, it was found that the same suspect was released on bail for armed robbery in Germiston court early this year. Investigation continues.”

She said at about 15:45 the same officers arrested a 52-year-old male for the possession of a hijacked truck in Alberton North. The truck was hijacked along N3 just after Jacob’s off-ramp.

He is expected to appear at the Magistrate’s Court soon.
