Weightlifting champ qualifies for Commonwealth Championships
Weightlifting champ Liam Chandler has been selected to compete in the Commonwealth Championships and needs your support to take part and represent South Africa.
Kibler Park’s weightlifting champ Liam Chandler, who is part of Movement Crew (a CrossFit gym in Brackenhurst), continues to progressively grow as an athlete.
Just recently, he took to the podium during the Gauteng Championships. He competed exceptionally well in his division, bagging a silver medal in the senior division and a gold medal in the junior division.
He also broke his own Gauteng junior record in clean and jerk and was subsequently selected for the senior weightlifting team to compete in the African championships in Tunisia.
However, due to being selected for the Commonwealth Championships in India, he then opted to compete in the Commonwealth competition and is set to participate on July 16.
The Hoërskool Dinamika alumni had to hit an impressive 270kg total during the provincial championships, which qualified him for the Commonwealth Championships where he will be competing in the 109kg category.
His father, Gavin Chandler, said they will be hosting a fundraiser at their Brackenhurst gym (36 Hennie Alberts Street, Brackenhurst) on June 17 at 08:00.
“It is a small weightlifting competition that anyone can join. We will also be holding a raffle. The cost of entry is R200 and everyone is welcome. Proceeds go to helping Liam represent SA at the 2023 Commonwealth Championships. Come lift for Liam and show your support,” he said.
All details regarding the competition are available on Liam’s Instagram account at @liam.chandler_
