Keep the ball rolling

Reading Country Club just keeps on moving forward ...

ALBERTON – Despite tough economic conditions, Reading Country Club in New Redruth is still enjoying steady growth, largely due to good governance and a golf course and bowling greens in pristine condition.

So says newly elected president of the Governing Body, Tony Lovesay. Reading CC elected its 2014/15 Governing Body last week, and Tony took the opportunity to thank outgoing President, Mike Bradshaw, and outgoing club captain, Kevin Kough, for their hard work and dedication shown to the club.

Reading CC, once referred to by golfing greats Bobby Locke and Gary Player as one of the most beautiful parklands in the world, boasts a rich history and has gone from strength to strength since 1939, when a group of families got together and bought this 140 acres of land.

The club today boasts a membership of 816, with an average of 109 rounds of golf played per day over the last year. Newly elected club captain, Bradley Mower, made mention of the successes the league teams have and are still enjoying. The Men’s Scratch league B team won their division, with the A-team currently leading their division. Both the Men’s handicap and senior league teams won their divisions last year, as well as the ladies Midweek and Sunday League teams.

“Going forward it is our intention to focus much more on community involvement and really become part of this great community,” says club manager David Smith. “We offer fantastic packages for both the golfer and the bowler as well as social packages for those members in our community who wish to join us on a social level,” he explains.

“We are also in the process of updating our website and increase our presence on the social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter,” Dave says.

In terms of venue hire, Reading CC offers three venues for hire to cater for bigger and smaller groups. An upstairs venue was added last year and is now an ideal venue for conferences, year-end parties, weddings, birthday parties and product launches.

This new upstairs facility can accommodate up to 60 people seated and up to a 100 for a cocktail type function. In addition, a covered patio with 270 degree view of the surrounding golf course and stunning gardens, adds to the exclusivity of the venue.

“We pride ourselves in a flexible management style, and will go to great lengths to assist wherever possible,” says Dave.
