Alberton budding dancer qualifies to compete in New York

The clock is ticking for Randhart dancer Sphesihle Mngomezulu who qualified to compete in New York. She needs donations to be able to go to the United States.

Budding dancer Sphesihle Mngomezulu has been fond of dancing and performing for over a decade.

Now, more than ever, she needs the community’s assistance to make her dancing dream a reality.

She qualified through Talent Africa to dance hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical at the International Performing Arts Championship in New York. The competition will take place in the United States in July.

As with every competition, there are cost implications. Her family is kindly requesting monetary assistance.

Each dance will require clothing, makeup and a hairstyle. Therefore, the total cost to cover everything is an estimated R100 000 to R120 000.

According to her mother, Daisy Mngomezulu, this would include flights and accommodation, which is done through Talent Africa.

“It will cost at least R6 000 for registration, R2 000 per dance category, meals, clothing and the visa fee, among others. We will thank all sponsors or donors,” she said.

The dance life of this Grade 11 learner at Alberton High School gradually began in groups at Dance Fusion through Sharon Potgieter.

“In 2016, her passion and love for other dances emerged. She started to express herself through solo dances for hip-hop funk, modern, lyrical, and contemporary. She dances modern with Nikki Pacheco at the Ambitions dance studio. Since then, she has been competing in hip-hop funk, modern, contemporary and lyrical sections,” explained Daisy.

Sphesihle said, “Being able to showcase my talent and compete in dance, which I love, overseas would be a dream come true.”

She appeals for financial assistance, no matter how big or little.

Should you wish to donate, contact her Daisy at 082 909 1059 or Boikhutso Mngomezulu at 061 470 3127.
