Signs your child might be bullied at school – EMPD

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department provided insight into the signs parents should look for when their children are bullied.

Parents must talk to their children and make them comfortable enough to share anything about their lives without feeling judged.

According to the EMPD, this will make it easier for children to tell their parents when they are bullied at school or anywhere else.

Some signs of bullying provided by the EMPD:

• Always has excuses for not wanting to go to school.

• Getting angry at little things.

• Developing low self-esteem.

• Recurring nightmares.

• No longer wanting to socialise with other kids.

• Self-inflected injuries.

• Always returning from school hungry, even though they had a lunch box.

• Withdrawal from social media.

“We must encourage them to report any wrong done to them by other children or teachers. Bullying can cause stress, and stress may lead them to commit suicide. And it’s even worse when they feel like no one cares. Let’s try to protect our kids from bullying,” stated EMPD.
