Joburg mayor announces new MMCs

Two other MMCs will be announced on February 3.

The City of Johannesburg’s new mayor, Thapelo Amad, appointed eight new MMCs on February 2.

The MMCs were selected after consultations with other political parties to solidify the government of local unity partnership in the city.

They are:

• Finance: Dada Morero

• Group corporate and shared services: Loyiso Masuku

• Environment and infrastructure services: Jack Sekwaila

• Public safety: Sepetlele Raseruthe

• Development planning: Eunice Mgcina

• Economic development: Nomoya Daphney Mnisi

• Housing: Anthea Natasha Leitch

• Community development: Lubabalo Magwentshu

In the interest of drawing from the pool of skills that exist outside of council, the mayor indicated that he intends to appoint two more individuals to his Mayoral Committee on February 3, once they have been sworn in as councillors.

The new committee is tasked with ensuring the acceleration of service delivery in the City of Johannesburg.

“We are reaching out to the city’s senior management team, urging them to work with the GLU in a cohesive and integrated manner. We must work together for and with our residents. We urge senior management to instil professionalism and increase productivity that is performance-driven,” said Amad.

“For the city to achieve its goals, there must be alignment between the GLU mandate and government programmes (the service delivery and budget implementation plan and integrated development plan) as informed by the Growth and Development Strategy 2040. Our city has lost a lot of time because of indecisive leadership over the past few months.

“It is time for us as the GLU to get back to the basics and serve our residents,” he said.
