Choral music lovers invited to audition

Singers older than 21 who have a love for choral music are invited to audition for the Colla Voce Chamber Choir, and singers aged between 13 and 21 are invited to audition for the Colla Voce Youth Choir.

Over the past 38 years, the Colla Voce Youth Choir has grown into a well-established choral organisation.

They pride themselves on their achievements on local and international stages, with a tour to Greece and Italy in 2007, among others, being a highlight.

They won the Youth Choir section at the 26th International Choral Competition in Preveza, Greece.

“In 2013, we toured England and Wales and performed with the Wessex Male Choir in Swindon. We participated in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales and won third place in the section for adult choirs. We also won gold in the Animato International Choir Competition,” explained Gerhard van Staden of the choir.

He said they are proud to boast local talent under their alumni members like Joshua na die Reën and Refentse Morake.

In 2022, the youth choir branched out and established the Colla Voce Chamber Choir, providing a platform for choristers older than 21.

“The chamber choir is focused on serving the community through singing and offering further vocal development for adults with a love for choral music. Rehearsals take place in Sandringham, Edenvale every second Thursday from 17:30 to 19:30,” he explained.

Rehearsals take place in Alberton on Fridays from 15:00 to 18:30.
