Klipkoppiefees entertained Alberton this weekend

The Klipkoppiefees had a humble beginning in 1999, taking the form of a family day at the Alberton Dam with 18 vehicles taking on the 4x4 track, and now this event is one of the most talked about festivals on the social calendar.

ALBERTON – The event is the brainchild of the Dutch Reformed Church Alberton West to generate funds solely earmarked for charity work in the Alberton community and surrounding areas as well as their bi-annual outreach to Malawi.

Now, 15 years later, the event is hosted on the Meyersfarm in Alberton.

The event has a church basaar feel, with the entertainment that you will come to expect of a festival. With entertainers like Snotkop, Bok van Blerk and Bobby van Jaarsveld to mention a few.

Adventure seeker and outdoorsmen could enjoy the 4×4 extreme, 4×4 treasure hunt, 4×4 challenge, the CMR fun run or the mountain bike race. The Binneland braai competition was the platform where braai-enthusiasts could show what they were made of. The competitors were paired with actors and actresses from the Binneland cast. Borries, (Corné Bornman) Alberton’s own braai-master, was part of a competing team.

The majority of the funds raised this weekend will go to Ligstad, a community care programme in Alberton. Ligstad delivers several services to the community: they have an aftercare facility for children, they care for the elderly and provide meal support in the form of prepared meals and food hampers, counselling, distribute clothes, and maintain their own vegetable garden to assist with the meal programme.

Jan Louw House at Abraham Kriel Children’s home, Alberton home for the aged and the Malawi outreach are some other charities that will benefit from the funds raised. Funds will also go towards the distribution of bibles in all 11 official languages in and around Alberton.

This year’s Klipkoppiefees was a great success, thank you to all the visitors. There were so many visitors that the Klipkoppiefees was forced to close the gates at 17:30. If you missed out on this year’s fun and excitement, make sure to join us next year.
