Gold medals for young fighters
A pair of youth competitors from Alberton, both under Valhalla MMA & Fitness, had numerous friendly matches in the under 12 Youth divisions, both of whom performed exceptionally well.
Members of the Valhalla MMA & Fitness Centre recently participated in the Youth MMA Tournament at the Carousel Casino.
Mixed Martial Arts Youth Division of South Africa in conjunction with Gauteng Fighting Championships staged the event.
“Besides serving kids aged 12 to 17 under IMMAF Youth A, B, and C divisions, the tournament also allowed fighters aged six to 11 to compete in friendly MMA rounds in an MMA cage,” said coach Shane Carr.
While under the watchful eye of the MMA SA officials, the kids followed the IMMAF Youth C rules, which prohibit strikes to the head during standing engagements and strikes once grounded.

“Chris Lamprecht (9) and Wayden Wolmarans (11) won gold in their weight divisions, and we are extremely proud of them. The future of MMA looks bright,” said Carr.
