Kamanga’s work cut out

Paul Kamanga from the South will get his well deserved chance at the WBC silver belt.

UP-and-coming young boxer from Box Office has his work cut out for him. Paul Kamanga will be a very busy boxer as he heads towards the end of the year.

First on his list will be to face Raymond Kapula in the “Walala Wasala” boxing tournament. The event is presented by Golden Gloves Promotions and will take place on Saturday June 28.

Then he has landed a shot at the WBC international title in the junior-welterweight division. This fight will take place on the Super 6 Clash for Cash tournament on August 9, as an under-card. The boxing prospect from the South will be in action on October 25 where he and well-known trainer, Anton Gilmore will tour to Monaco to fight in the Monaco tournament. To end the year he will also most probably feature on AfricanRing Christmas Cracker.

“We have a very busy schedule towards the end of the year, but we will take each bout as they come,” said Gilmore. “Paul has made me and I have made Paul, but we also have a formidable team in Raymond Cerfonteyn and Gert Strydom.”

Confirming the news on Thursday May 22, Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman said that the title had become vacant and Kamanga qualified on the basis of his hot form and eleven-fight unbeaten streak.

“This is excellent news and the beginning of great things,” said Berman.

Kamanga won his all-important fight against Adam de Moor in spectacular fashion which gave him a shot at the vacated WBC silver belt. He will fight the experience Kaizer Mabuza also from the South for the title. Mabuza, former world title holder, trains under the watchful eye of Manny Fernandes at BRD Boxing Academy.
