City of Ekurhuleni to present new self-service meter reading system

CoE is set to launch a new meter reading system which is anticipated to enhance the city's operational procedures and ensure the best possible provision of high-quality services.

The City of Ekurhuleni is about to launch a new meter reading system that will enable its customers to promptly submit to the city the readings of their water and energy meters.

This is aligned with the city’s objective of becoming a smart city and improving the resident customer experience.

The city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, said the new system and meter management solution will enhance the city’s operational procedures and ensure that it provides quality.

“Consumers will be able to capture their meter readings through a mobile meter reading portal on the MyCoE App. They will also be able to read their meters regularly as and when a cycle to read the meters is open,” said Zweli.

The users will only need to take a picture of the readings and upload them to the MyCoE app’s mobile meter reading portal. The new approach will guarantee that all uploaded data is protected and stored separately for each customer.

The meter management solution has the following advantages:

• Removes duplicate data.

• Reads both water and electricity meters for each household, using a single meter reader.

• The ability for customers to self-capture and submit meter readings accurately.

• Can upload images for verification and audit.

• Establish GPS coordinates for meters to reliably link them to customers.

Both conventional water and electricity meters will still be read by the meter readers. They will be recognised by a legal identification card issued by the accounting officer, which will also contain the contact information of the city official who can vouch for the accuracy of the meter readers’ information.

It will also include a picture of the meter reader and all their information.

The new meter reading system launch date will soon be made public. For frequent updates, follow the city’s social media profiles.
