The City appoints Mokgema Mongane as the new JDA CEO

The MMC for Development Planning, Belinda Echeozonjoku, believes Mongane will hit the ground running.

The MMC for Development Planning, Belinda Echeozonjoku, extended a warm welcome to Mokgema Mongane, the new CEO of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), effective from August 5.

Mongane has extensive professional experience in management who worked as the general manager of capital development and assurance at Transnet and as a COO at the Council for the built environment.

The new CEO holds a master’s in business administration from Regenesys, another master’s in engineering management from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Science honours in civil engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Echeozonjoku remarked that Mongane comes at a crucial time for the JDA when the agency is looking to turn around its fortunes and position itself as implementing agent of choice for local, provincial, and national government.

“I believe the new CEO will hit the ground running, dealing with some of the issues impacting the work of the JDA, such as non-performing contractors and having regular interaction with communities to see the true reflection and impact of JDA projects. The JDA is an important entity for the city and plays a crucial role in the implementation of the growth and development strategy of the City of Johannesburg.

“I am sure Mongane will have to use his expertise to make sure the JDA achieves the multi-party government’s mayoral priorities of turning Joburg into an inclusive and business-friendly city that gets the basics right,” said Echeozonjoku.
