Waste Department trucks still in repairs

Waste Department trucks are still in repairs

Alberton residents should note the Waste Department trucks are still in repairs, which will result in waste removal in areas to be affected

Indication of when the normal collection schedule will be followed has not been addressed.

MMC of Waste and Environmental Management Services Andre du Plessis indicated the department is having issues repairing the waste collection trucks, which are in the workshops for lengthy periods of time.

This issue is not only affecting Brackenhurst and Brackendowns but areas across the city.

In an email from the depot manager in Alberton, the department has committed to giving an update once the department has all the resources they need to resume the regular collection schedule.

Clr Malcolm Maifala-Masebe said: ” do understand the inconvenience this has on residents and would like to appeal for patience in this regard while the department is addressing the issues they face. The scenario is just as frustrating for the department which is held back by lack of vehicles.”

Maifala-Masebe suggested residents keep taking bins outside daily in the mornings and back into their yards in the evenings.

“While this is an inconvenience, let’s remain patient while the department addresses all issues outstanding.”
