Upset about EMPD destroying homeless people’s tents

Council should provide shelter for the homeless in Alberton

On the front page of your newspaper two weeks ago it shows how the metro police destroy homeless people’s tents.

This is upsetting as we are living in a country that has an unemployment rate of 35% but it is more like 50%. What must these people do?

Are you aware that at night-time there are dozens of people sleeping on the pavement in Van Riebeeck Avenue across from the police station, as well as on the opposite side?

In America, the local town authorities give destitute people a piece of land and provide tents for them to live in.

There is no shelter or salvation army in Alberton. What must these people do if they are already out on the street?
Alberton town council can buy one of the empty hospitals and revamp it into a shelter with the help of the community or churches can give their halls at night time, especially in the winter for overnight shelters.

These are human beings just like everybody else and need help, otherwise, this country will become a shame to the rest of the world.

I know the Alberton Record also put articles in to help people but this problem is growing and it seems no one is seeing that this needs attention urgently.
