Newly appointed station commander vows to keep Alberton safe

Alberton SAPS newly appointed station commander Col Olven Letloenyane has committed to working with the community to sweep crime off the streets.

Having been in office for just a month, recently appointed Alberton SAPS station commander Col Olven Letloenyane is devoted to keeping Alberton streets crime-free.

With 31 years of experience in the force, Letloenyane is in the business of fighting crime.

He told the RECORD he is committed to making sure the station has progressive members who will deliver good service to the community.

“Together, we are going to make it. We will need the community and private entities to join hands with us in combating crime,” he said.

Before being appointed in Alberton, he worked as the Tsakani SAPS Vispol commander, also working previously in Nigel and at several other stations.

“I joined the SAPS in 1991 and attended a police training centre in Hammanskraal. From there, I was assigned to Springs’ mobile unit and worked all over Gauteng. In 1994, I was promoted to sergeant and placed under crime prevention,” Letloenyane said.

Apart from promotions, he said there is so much he has achieved from being in the force.

“My tireless work has gained me popularity for having lent a helping hand to those in need. I have been rewarded by several charities for my involvement in life-changing programmes. I don’t see myself doing any other job,” he said.

He warned Albertonians to be vigilant of criminal elements and that Alberton has a high rate of hijackings because there are several freeways.

“Alberton is a more industrialised and clustered area, which promotes crimes like theft from motor vehicles. People are hijacked on freeways, mostly by bogus police driving vehicles with blue lights,” said Letloenyane.
