Vosloorus family calls for disciplinary measures against doctor

The family accused the hospital of negligence and wants them to take disciplinary measures or any other steps to stop the doctor’s behaviour towards patients.

A Vosloorus family left Thelle Mogoerane Hospital frustrated and disappointed after one of the doctors allegedly refused to assist a family member (69) from Extension 2, Vosloorus, on January 18.

The elderly man’s daughter, Kamogelo*, said she brought her father into the casualty department of the hospital in a critical condition.

She explained he had kidney failure and is also a cardio patient.

She said they were disappointed by the treatment they received because no one was willing to help them until she reported the matter to the matron’s office.

According to Kamogelo, the doctor, Deorain Sasha, was rude, disrespectful, unethical, unprofessional and negligent.

“She shouted at my father, saying he will never get well because he smokes, eats spicy food and drinks a lot.

“My father almost died at that hospital. The doctor did not even get the patient’s report, but rather made false claims,” said Kamogelo.

Kamogelo confirmed her father received treatment and is recovering at home. However, she said the problem is that the doctor will continue to mistreat other patients as she did to her father.

She said a person named Skhosana, who was in the matron’s office, was very helpful.

The family accused the hospital of negligence and wants them to take disciplinary measures or any other steps to stop the doctor’s behaviour towards patients.

Ekurhuleni health district communications officer Joseph Monaheng acknowledged the complaint and that the matter is under investigation.

“The family was contacted for redress on January 23, as the matter was already with the operational manager, HOD of the unit and assistant manager of the unit. Unfortunately, the family did not show up,” said Monaheng.

He said a subsequent redress date is being set up.
