Eikenhof accident on R550 leaves one dead, six injured

A 29-year-old male and a 25-year-old male were both found in a critical condition.

A man has died and six others have been injured, two critically, in a collision between a bakkie and a BMW on the R550 in the Eikenhof area on Saturday evening, November 13.

According to Ross Campbell, ER24 Multimedia Producer, their paramedics were on the scene at 19:00 along with Midvaal Traffic and Fire Departments.

“An adult male was found lying next to the wreck of a BMW, he showed no signs of life and was, unfortunately, declared dead on arrival,” she said.

“A 29-year-old male and a 25-year-old male were both found in a critical condition, requiring Advanced Life Support interventions.”

“The 25-year-old was flown by another private service’s medical helicopter to the hospital for further emergency treatment,” said Campbell.

The 29-year-old was transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further emergency care by ER24.

Campbell added that three further adults and one young boy of 4 or 5 years of age were treated and transported by other Emergency Medical Services on the scene for moderate injuries.

The South African Police Services were also on the scene for further investigations.

Recommendations on what to do when you approach an accident scene:

• If you see any lights flashing in the distance, reduce your speed immediately and approach with caution

• Be cautious when road cones are packed out on the scene

• Be extra cautious when you approach accident scenes

• Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs

• Never drive when you are tired

• Always keep a safe following distance and do not rubberneck

• Do not pull over or park on the scene to have a look at what is going on

• Listen to radio traffic reports in your area.
