Hitzeroth murder trial postponed

The two accused of the murder of Gert Hitzeroth appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on October 6.

During proceedings, both the State and defence indicated that they are ready to proceed to trial. According to both sides, the representations made to the NPA were unsuccessful.

Presiding officer magistrate Leeann Singh asked the State whether they will be calling the pathologist to which they indicated they will due to disputes surrounding the cause of death and whether it can be linked to self-defence.

Singh further asked if the DNA evidence has entered to which the State replied that they do not intend to make use of DNA evidence.

Gert Hitzeroth murder suspects released on R15 000 and R5 000 bail

She elaborated by asking about the blood flood in a bucket and on the floor as indicated in the pretrial meeting minutes. According to the State, this is not a matter of dispute. The defence could not indicate if this was in dispute as the trial attorney was not present.

The matter has been postponed to October 26 for the trial lawyer to be present to clarify all potential disputes to the court.
