Alberton City closes as precautionary measure

The centre told tenants this was precautionary and in the interest of their safety and that of their staff.

Alberton City Shopping Centre closed at 13:45 today and sent tenants and their staff home in light of what businesses in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and other areas have suffered due to protests, seemingly over the incarceration of Jacob Zuma.

Alberton City Shopping Centre management released the below statement:

Please take note that we have received information that a group is assembling from the Alrode side in Alberton.

Alberton City Shopping Centre has been mentioned as a target hence we have taken the decision to close the shopping Centre.

For everybody’s safety, we kindly request that all tenants close their stores and leave the Centre. We request that you please stay calm and patient during this process, there is no need to panic as you leave the building as security will be assisting everybody.

The Centre will be completely shut down by 13:45.

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding through all of this.

Further updates will be posted as received. Thank you

Stay safe out there!
