The South community mourns tragic death of assistant referee Shaun Olive

The South community is in mourning after hearing of the death of Shaun Olive.

He resided in the South and was a teacher at Mondeor Primary School.

He served as an assistant referee at the Premier Soccer League (PSL), SAFA and FIFA Assistant Referee.

According to a statement issued by The South African Football Association (SAFA), Shaun sustained serious injuries after being involved in a freak motor accident in Mondeor on Thursday, May 6 and passed on this morning.

‘’We are gutted as the Association. Here was a young man, taken away at the prime of his career. Shaun was among the rising young officials and his passing on is a huge blow to the country, the continent and world,’’ said SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.

There will be a moment of silence in honour of him ahead of the Nedbank Cup DStv Challenge, DStv Premiership and GladAfrica Championship.

Olive’s family had made an appeal for financial assistance for medical treatment as he had allegedly lost his medical aid support.
