City addresses waste removal backlogs

Following waste removal backlogs reportedly caused by the Ekurhuleni Business Forum, the City of Ekurhuleni assures residents that backlogs are being addressed.

According to the CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the waste removal backlog was caused by a work stoppage initiated by the group on March 15.

He said this was in Katlehong, Thokoza and Vosloorus, including parts of Boksburg South.

ā€œThe group intimidated waste removal workers, interrupting services in those areas as a result. Work to attend to the backlog will resume on March 17 in the afternoon. This will be done after the officials have completed their morning rounds in areas scheduled for Wednesday calendar days,ā€ said Dlamini.

The CoE requests all customers that are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday calendar days to take out their 240L wheelie bins from Wednesday afternoon.

The City has since promised to engage with the group to establish their grievances and avoid similar interruptions.
The CoE also extended an apology for the inconveniences caused.
