Man arrested for unlicensed firearm, ammunition and narcotics

A Palm Ridge man has been detained following a tip-off received by members of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) on March 12.

This comes after the officers received information on a suspect who is always seen carrying a firearm.

The members then proceeded to the male suspect’s address, where he was found outside the yard.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela of Eden Park SAPS told the RECORD that the suspect then tried to run but was cornered in the yard.

“Upon searching him, a 7.65mm browning firearm serial number filed off was found on his waist with seven live ammunition.

His room was searched and six zip lock bags containing narcotics were seized,” she said.

She said the suspect was arrested by Edenpark SAPS on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs.

He is expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court soon.
