Burnt body on corner Voortrekker and Padstow Road identified

The burnt body found on March 5 at the taxi rank on the corner of Voortrekker Road and Padstow Street has been identified as Jabulani Zikhali (58).

Jabulani used to live at the taxi rank and was known to local taxi drivers as he always washed their taxis.

According to Jabulani’s brother, Thulane Sithole, he and Jabulani had the same mother, but not the same fathers.

“Circumstances around what happened to my brother and how the fire started is still under investigation. Police took his remains to the Germiston mortuary.”

Thulane said their mother died in 1993 and they went to live with their aunt.

“I saw my brother the last time in 1997 in Newcastle before he left with his girlfriend. I’ve searched for him for years, but it was very difficult as we did not even have a photograph of him.

“Now 24 years later we receive a call about Jabulani, but it was not the call we expected. Somehow he gave up my mother’s sister’s address in Newcastle and that is how they found us,” said Thulane.
