Father Christmas visits Alberton North

An Alberton North pair embarked on a journey of handing out ‘happy packs’ to children residing in Alberton North on December 19.

While dressed as Father Christmas, Willie Henstock partnered with Torie Pretorius to give back with the intent to appreciate children as Christmas approaches.

They drove around the neighbouring community, and every child they came across was fortunate to receive a pack of sweets.

The idea was inspired by Torie Pretorius. He has for the past 10 years valued Christmas by handing over Christmas presents to children at a local day-care centre.

He has since decided to expand and partner up with Henstock in reviving the Christmas spirit this festive season.

“I’m passionate about this initiative and I would do this at my son’s day-care, where I dressed up as Santa Claus and gave children gifts. This year I then thought we rather do a road trip and give my neighbour a chance to be Santa Claus,” said Pretorius.

In total, they managed to put together at least 200 packs of treats consisting of sweets and chips. As they drove around, motorists and community members cheered in excitement as children took turns in receiving these packs.

Despite being their first road trip within the area, they declared the momentous event as a huge success and said more events are to follow.

Willie Henstock ‘Father Christmas’ told the RECORD that they are hoping to target more areas in the following year and make the initiative even greater.

“Next year we are hoping to visit more areas in Alberton, we also want to include toys in these packs. We would highly appreciate any form of assistance in making next year’s event a huge success. This first-ever event was wonderful and the community commended us for it,” he said.
