EMPD welcomes oversight committee
The seven newly appointed members of the EMPD oversight committee were welcomed by the City on November 12.
They were welcomed to the committee by the EMPD chief, Jabulanie Mapiyeye, city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi and MMC under community safety councillor Pheladi Mmoko.
The seven newly appointed members are councillor Olga Makgoba, Louis Steenkamp, Lihle Ndzelu, Raymond Gundula, Dr Mikal Reza Patel, Melane Kruger and councillor Khehla Madlala.
Their function includes creating processes for risk governance, monitoring and reporting to the city manager, creating clear defined duties for the EMPD and to improve effectiveness within the EMPD among others.
“This is a gap we wished to fill since the EMPD’s inception (February 2002) and today we are delighted because we have the immediate team,” said Mapiyeye. Both Mmoko and Mashazi wished the team good luck with their endeavours.
