Lusito Land back in 2014

The festival runs from April 24 to May 4 at Wemmer Pan, Pioneer Park in La Rochelle in the South of Johannesburg.

LA ROCHELLE –Ā  LusitoĀ Land, Joburgā€™s hottest family festival isĀ backĀ inĀ 2014Ā with some of the finest South African musicians and bands taking to the stage as well some of the cityā€™s tastiest Portuguese cuisine sizzling on the grills.

ā€œThis yearā€™s festival promises to be the best one we have ever put on and we have gone all out to make sure that all our visitors have a great time that exceeds all expectations,ā€ said Noemia Contente, spokesperson from theĀ LusitoĀ Association for the Physically and Mentally Challenged.

LusitoĀ LandĀ first opened its doors in 1981 as a festival that celebrated the Portuguese tradition and culture. Over the last 34 years, it has evolved into a festival celebrated by the many cultures that make up Johannesburg and Gauteng. The Portuguese tradition has, however, been sustained in the wonderful traditional flavours of the fine cuisine that is an important facet in the Portuguese heritage.

LusitoĀ LandĀ has proven to be a crowd-pleaser and was voted no fewer than 11 times as ā€œBest Festivalā€ by Leisure Options Magazine readers. One hundred and sixty thousand visitors annually walk through the gates, proving it to be the ideal family day out ahead of Gautengā€™s winter months.

Tickets are available at a cost of R60 for adults and R30 for children under the age of 12 and pensioners. Children under the age of three gain free access.

LusitoĀ LandĀ is at Wemmer Pan, Pioneers Park, corner of 11th Street and Turf Road, La Rochelle. Open fromĀ 10:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, 10:00 to 23:00 on weekends and public holidays and 10:00 to 19:00 on Sunday May 4. All proceeds fromĀ LusitoĀ LandĀ go to theĀ LusitoĀ Association for the Physically and Mentally Challenged.
