Ward 38 councillor honours Good Samaritans

Selfless and committed Ward 38 residents will now be recognised for their good deeds, thanks to councillor Malcolm Maifala.

Selfless and committed Ward 38 residents will now be recognised for their good deeds, thanks to councillor Malcolm Maifala.

This comes after Maifala recently introduced a platform called My Ward 38 Community Champion.
It is aimed at honouring Brackenhurst and Brackendowns residents who outshine themselves by serving their community.

It allows community members to nominate those residents who stand out from the most, and those nominated will then be honoured by Maifala.

“The nominations will be done monthly, and there also must be a motivation to accompany the nomination. The first nominee will be announced and recognised on Mandela Day because this is similarly linked with this day.

“The overall year winner will also be announced on next year’s Mandela Day,” he said.

He said he is passionate about restoring a sense of belonging in the community.

“There are lots of residents, especially from Brackenhurst and Brackendowns, who selflessly give up their own time and resources to help others. This was also inspired by a few residents who have positively impacted the community during lockdown,” said Maifala.

For one to be selected as a ward champion, they need to reside in Ward 38 and must have taken part in charity work. Charity work can simply be any kind that impacts the community positively.
