#BootsForAfricaSA receives donations from Australia

Gavin Hendry of Boots for Africa told the RECORD the donations were made in honour of the late Ben Shaw, who was passionate about sport.

Boots for Africa was delighted to receive another massive donation of sports equipment from Australia on June 23.

Bolloré Transport and Logistics ensured the safe arrival of boots, balls and other sporting equipment. These were said to be collected by Sarah Bain of Boots for Africa Australia and Dalya Shaw’s #Boots4Ben initiative.

Gavin Hendry of Boots for Africa told the RECORD the donations were made in honour of the late Ben Shaw, who was passionate about sport.

“Shaw’s son, Ben Shaw, died in a weightlifting accident in 2017. He was an enthusiastic 15-year-old sports fan who intended to coach in Africa when he finished school. “The #Boots4Ben initiative was started in his memory, an annual event to collect sports equipment in their local community that was rocked by his passing,” he said.

According to Hendry, Shaw had intended to come to South Africa to hand out the boots on July 9 for Ben’s 18th birthday but was unable to travel.

“Covid-19 may have delayed this delivery and will likely delay our handovers, but we know the beautiful game will triumph. And when it does, we will be there to make sure their generous donation puts smiles on thousands of children’s faces,” he said.
