Hospice to benefit from the Shuffling Walking Team virtual walk

A virtual walk can take place from any location you choose. You can walk, run or jog on the road, on a trail, on a treadmill or on a track.

Walk your own race, at your own pace, at a location of your own choice, and know that you will help conquer cancer, one step at a time!

Over the past eight years, the Shuffling Walking Team has donated just over R1.8-million to their nominated cancer beneficiaries, of which Stepping Stone Hospice in Alberton is one of them.

The walk traditionally takes place on the last Sunday of July in Bedfordview where the streets transform into a pink blanket of thousands of walkers, all sharing in the fun and excitement of the day. With the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisers this year took the decision to, instead of cancelling the event, host a virtual walk on July 26, 2020.

“We feel it is now, more than ever, urgent that we try and raise funds for our charities as they themselves have had to cancel many fund-raising events and campaigns. Yet the services and care they offer to those facing cancer have not stopped,” said Marinda Garrana, a co-founder of the Shuffling Walking Team.

A virtual walk can take place from any location you choose. You can walk, run or jog on the road, on a trail, on a treadmill or on a track. And best yet, you choose the distance, be it 2km, 5km or 10km.

Entrance fee is R100 per walker/runner which includes a Shuffling Walking Team branded mask. You can enter by paying the R100 entry fee into: Shuffling Walking Team, Nedbank, branch code: 198 765, account number: 114 622 8155, reference: your name / virtual.

You can collect your mask from the Stepping Stone Hospice in-patient unit in New Market Park. Please note, proof of payment will be required.

You are also invited to dress up in pink and share your photos to be featured on the Shuffling Walking Team Facebook and Instagram pages. Who knows, there may be a prize for the best-dressed team.
