Die Blou Meul – 60 years young

Die Blou Meul celebrates its 60th birthday and invites you to join in the experience.

DIE Blou Meul has been known as one of the largest outdoor stores in Gauteng for many years. On April 1, this company will be celebrating 60 years of customer excellence.

The owner, Calie Henning is a very proud man today, as he worked really hard to build up from what started as a Dutch delicatessen shop, to the One-stop-Outdoor-Shop, Die Blou Meul has come to be.

Die Blou Meul was opened on April 1 1954 and sold sweets, cold meats, tinned foods, and all kinds of food products. The owner then, Wim Vunderink, a Dutchman who later became Calie’s father-in-law, was an excellent business man. He was also an outdoor enthusiast who saw a gap in the market in Alberton for sporting, fishing and camping goods. The business became so well known for this department, that it had to make space and gone were the days of selling food products.

Calie took over from Wim, expanded the business and today Die Blou Meul is famous for its firearms, ammunition, camping equipment, hunting accessories, bow hunting, fishing equipment, tents, school wear and anything else you can think of that encompasses the great outdoors. There is also the Indoor Shooting range, which is open seven days a week, where the public can sharpen up their shooting abilities.

Calie has now handed over the reins to his son Jacques and daughter Vicky.

Join them for their celebrations on March 29 from 07:30 to 13:00 for what promises to be a day filled with fun and some great specials from selected brands.
