Shavethons abound in aid of cancer

The annual CANSA Shavethon saw many community members shaving or spraying their hair for all of those who have been afflicted by cancer.

ALBERTON – CANSA Shavathon is one of South Africa’s best-loved events in support of a very worthy cause, namely showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

For many years losing your hair is a common side-effect of cancer therapy – so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors.

Colouring your hair or paying a Bail Out Fee have become options for those who prefer not to shave, or who can’t shave on the day. For those who like to be actively engaged and to make a difference, Shavathon embraces volunteers. Their support is invaluable.

As this is an event in which anybody can participate and help with this worthy cause, Alberton City, Alberton Cricket and Hockey Club, Lemontree and Rietvlei Zoo Farm contributed by hosting their very own shavethon’s.

Between the four shavethon’s there were lots of participation from community members and the same amount of excitement, joy, laughter and a pure feeling of achievement was felt throughout.
