Not only are they dedicated to protect and to serve, they are also fully prepared for coronavirus by gearing up with safety wear.

To help curb the spread of the virus that has brought the country to lockdown, Alberton SAPS has put in place safety measures at its station.

This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa declaring the Covid-19 pandemic a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

All SAPS staff have committed to wearing hand gloves and face masks and people visiting the station are ordered to sanitise their hands as the enter or leave the station.

Each office in the station has been provided with soap to promote hygiene.

Capt Manare Ramotshela, Alberton SAPS spokesperson, said that as a station they are prioritising hygiene.

“We’re complying with the president’s instructions and since he emphasised these precautions, we make sure that we keep this place clean.

“We also make sure that services continue without any disturbances,” said Ramotshela.

He told the RECORD that he takes precautionary measures very seriously.

The World Health Organisation has provided these precautionary measures:

• Wash your hands frequently.

• Maintain social distancing.

• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

• Practise respiratory hygiene.

• If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.

• Stay informed and follow advice given by your health-care provider.
