Kick the curves or punch the bunch

Interested parties can join kickboxing for fitness or take part in tournaments at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.

SARAH O’Donnell started Chinese Kickboxing in Manchester before she opened her own place at Rietvlei Zoo Farm teaching the same thing she mastered.

She trained under Chief Instructor Boughey and soon received her black belt – second degree and then started competing. She fought locally in England and took part in the World Championship in Italy – World Kick Boxing Council where she received a bronze medal.

She wanted to move back to SA and promised herself that she would not be bound to an office job she hated, but would do what she loved… kickboxing.

Interested parties can join the kickboxing for fitness or take part in tournaments although Sarah said, “I promise there will be no contact unless you want to do sparring – punch or kick techniques. Nobody will be pushed into a ring,” she said laughingly.

Kickboxing has a lot to do with cardio and you become fighting fit. It involves warming up, foot work, punching, and strength and core exercises. You get a general workout with all round fitness. “It helps you destress as well as assisting with mental and physical health. It is fun and you have a good time while becoming fit,” said Sarah.

Sarah opened Alberton Chinese Kickboxing at Rietvlei Zoo Farm, Bumble Bee hall, every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 19:30 for ages seven and up.
