Go-ahead given for Mayberry Park RDP housing project

“This will be a year project and no other building is anticipated to take place in 2020,” said councillor Marina van Wyk.

Residents from Mayberry Park and surrounding areas are feeling hopeless about the proposed RDP housing project, but councillor Marina van Wyk (DA) Ward 94 is hopeful.

Van Wyk had a meeting on January 15 at the MMC’s office where she received updates on the progress of the project.

“Progress, as communicated to me, was that the project is going ahead,” she said.

On January 17 there was a gathering on site in Hennie Alberts Street whereby project managers handed over the proposed project to the appointed contractors.

Disgruntled residents also came to the meeting to view the plans of the project.

“According to the plans they are going to build the RDPs across from the informal settlement on the corner of Old Vereeniging Road and Hennie Alberts Street.

“Then the social development units which will be rentals and bonded housing will be built near Mayberry Park in the area of Flamink Road, Delphinium Street and JG Strijdom Road.

“In other words, the upper market units will be in the upper market areas and the lower market units in the lower market areas,” said van Wyk.

One of the residents said she feels the traffic in Delphinuim Street will be chaotic with this new development.

Other residents again said they are fighting a losing battle.

The plans make provision for newly-built parks, a primary school, a high school, a clinic and office space which will be available to the SAPS.

“The plan is to start with the infrastructure which includes roads, sewerage and storm water.

“This will be a year project and no other building is anticipated to take place in 2020,” said van Wyk.

Residents with any questions or complaints can send an email to Cliver Wertheimer at clive@propertyalberton.co.za and upon receiving emails, Wertheimer and van Wyk will then work through the emails and have a meeting with the project managers to answer all questions asked.

Project manager form Shuma Africa Projects Tshianeo Malange, project manager from the City of Ekurhuleni Sam Amoa, councillor Marina van Wyk and project manager from The Housing Development Agency Lerato Dikhutso on site on January 17.
