WATCH: Man caught on camera allegedly stealing dog in Randhart

If anyone in the Randhart area is missing a big white dog, please come forward.

A concerned resident of Alberton recently shared a video of a dog, allegedly being stolen, with the RECORD.

This incident took place on December 30 at around 2.46 pm.

In the video, you can see a man walking with a large white dog, which looks like a pit bull.

He seems to be drag-walking the dog, holding onto either a collar or the dog’s neck hair.

Although the dog walked with the man, the dog seemed scared with his tail down.

They move towards a white Mercedes Benz in the parking area of Randhart Shopping Centre.

As the man and the dog approach, the vehicle pulls out of the parking bay, the boot opens and the man stuffs the dog into the trunk.

The man then got into the passenger side of the vehicle and the vehicle takes off.

“I don’t know what to do and felt the need to get this on camera. My only hope is that the owners of the dog will be found,” said the resident, who wishes to stay anonymous.

The RECORD spoke to Zuerina Venter from Animal Protection Network (APN) who said that if people see things like this happening they should immediately try to contact legal authorities or even their security company.

“In cases like these owners should first get a case number as it is property of them that has been stolen. Then after that they should go their local SPCA and animal organisations,” said Venter.

According to her it is important to always report a missing pet.

“I know in today’s time we are too scared to help or try stop a crime from happening as we fear for our own lives, but then it is important to take a photo or a video. People should also try to write down a registration number of a vehicle,” she said.

“It is important to find the owners of the dog so that we can take things from there.”

If anyone in the Randhart area is missing a large white dog, they can contact Venter on 082 850 9842.
